Injury News: Diogo Jota suffers hamstring setback in Liverpool pre-season training session ahead of Crystal Palace match

Ian Doyle of the Liverpool Echo claims that Diogo Jota has suffered an injury setback during a Liverpool training session on their pre-season tour.

The Portuguese star has apparently been impacted in the same area as the previous hamstring injury he suffered earlier this summer. This would come as a big blow for the Reds if the tests reflect bad news.

An injury in that area can force a player to sit out for several weeks if it is believed to be serious. Hopefully, that is not the case with Jota.

The Reds were handed a 4-0 defeat by an oddly motivated Erik ten Hag who fielded a considerably strong Manchester United team on paper as compared to us. Jurgen Klopp rotated his team as much as he could during the game.

What next for Diogo Jota?

Jota did not play any part in that defeat. And it seems like he would not be available to take part in the game against Crystal Palace on 15th June in Singapore.

The safest thing for the Reds in any scenario would be to hand him proper rest during the course of this month. We are yet to play RB Salzburg, RB Leipzig and RC Strasbourg Alsace during the pre-season.

There is also the Community Shield match against Manchester City, which would act as a curtain raiser for the campaign. Luckily for Liverpool, they are not short of quality attackers despite the exits of Sadio Mane, Divock Origi, and Takumi Minamino.

Darwin Nunez could be trusted in the line-up from the get-go if he impresses Jurgen Klopp, while Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah can work their magic down the flanks.

LFC’s Premier League season starts against Fulham on 6th August- by then, Liverpool fans would hope to have Jota back.
