Fabrizio Romano: Liverpool were ‘seriously’ considering signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on his Here We Go podcast (h/t Mirror), Liverpool were “seriously” considering signing Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund this summer transfer window.
The Reds missed out on their preferred target after Aurelien Tchouameni decided to join Real Madrid. The possibility of signing the 19-year-old England international was then explored by the Merseyside club. But the Dortmund midfielder is not for sale currently.
As the Bundesliga giants have lost important players this summer, it seems unlikely that the German side is keen on selling another one of their stars. Considering all this, Liverpool have postponed their plans to sign Bellingham and will try once again next summer.
Bellingham has been one of the best prospects in world football since his with Birmingham City. Dortmund were the side successful in making the player put pen to paper in 2020. Over the last two seasons, the 19-year-old has been a key player for the Germans.
At the tender age of 19, the Englishman already has 90 appearances for the Bundesliga club. In his time in Dortmund, Bellingham has scored 10 goals and provided 18 assists. He’s developed into one of the finest midfielders in world football.
With 15 international caps to his name as well, Bellingham has already played with the likes of Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold with the England national team.
The 19-year-old has shown energy and tenacity in the midfield in the Bundesliga. He now has the experience of playing in one of the biggest teams in Europe on a regular basis.
Most big teams need to freshen up the squad after some time. The Reds have had Thiago Alcantara, Fabinho and Henderson as the mainstays for two seasons now. It looks like we’ll be going into the next season again without any addition in the middle of the park.

Fans will hope Liverpool can get Bellingham this year or the next because the youngster is the perfect profile for Jurgen Klopp’s side. Age is also a factor on the 19-year-old’s side, which is another compelling detail in his possible signing.
