Report: Liverpool join three European clubs in the race to sign 10-goal Swedish star

Transfer News: Alexander Isak now pursued by Liverpool, Real Madrid, Arsenal, and Newcastle United

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Liverpool.com), Liverpool have entered the race to sign Real Sociedad striker, Alexander Isak.

The 22-year-old had a solid UEFA Euros campaign with the Swedes and scored 10 goals in all competitions for Los Txuri-Urdin last season. However, the Reds would face a lot of competition for him.

Valued at somewhere between £42m and £51m, Isak has the attention of Real Madrid, along with fellow Premier League clubs Arsenal and Newcastle United. That would certainly mean a path filled with hurdles for the Reds.

He signed for Sociedad from Borussia Dortmund just three years back and is on a contract that expires in the summer of 2026. Moreover, it remains to be seen what plans LFC could have for Isak if they really do want him.

What next for Isak and LFC?

Darwin Nunez only recently joined the club. Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino, meanwhile, would want minutes down the middle of our attack.

In the short term, this isn’t a signing that makes a lot of sense. But it does in the long term, especially with Divock Origi, Takumi Minamino, and Sadio Mane’s exits this summer, along with Firmino’s age.

Arsenal recently announced the signing of Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City but having lost both Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this year, they may want to strengthen that area a bit more.

This is the Toons’ first summer under new ownership and they would surely want to make statement signings. Madrid, meanwhile, would know that Karim Benzema isn’t getting any younger.

This makes it a race not worth competing in right now. Perhaps in the future, this move could make sense, but it’s better the Reds utilise their money and time on players that can strengthen our midfield.
