Liverpool in talks for Ajax forward Antony amidst strong links to Manchester United
Liverpool have entered the race for Ajax forward Antony, according to Yahoo Esportes (h/t Liverpool Echo), with Manchester United being strongly linked with the 22-year-old.
The Reds have started talks with the Eredivisie champions for their star player. It’s being said the Red Devils are leading the race for Antony’s signature, but the Merseysiders have entered strongly to make a move happen.
The links with the Brazilian come in the midst of club sources claiming that the Reds have completed their incoming transfer business for this window with the addition of three new players.
Antony is a highly regarded and sought-after player who primarily plays on the right wing. A breakout debut season with Ajax in 2020 saw him score 10 goals and provide 10 assists. Last season, an ankle injury curtailed the 22-year-old’s campaign early.
Before being sidelined for the rest of the season in April, the Brazilian featured in 32 games, scoring 12 and assisting 10. The former Sao Paulo star’s performances have led to top European teams looking at him.
Liverpool’s attacking options set
Reds fans will feel Liverpool are currently set in their attacking options. Darwin Nunez was added to the squad as Sadio Mane left for pastures new. The Uruguayan had an excellent goal-scoring season with Benfica last campaign.
Mohamed Salah is the talisman of the team. The Egyptian has a contract until 2025. So the right-wing of the team is secure with him in the side.
Luis Diaz arrived in January and has had an excellent second half of the season. The Colombian has made a place for himself on the left of attack in Jurgen Klopp’s XI. Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino are the other options at the gaffer’s disposal.

Antony’s former manager Erik ten Hag is now in Manchester. Reds fans will feel the team doesn’t require the Brazilian with the depth in the squad right now. But if the Merseysiders want him, they’ll have to fend off interest from the Red Devils.
