Edouard Mendy sends “huge” Sadio Mane message to Liverpool after Bayern Munich transfer
Edouard Mendy apparently believes that selling Sadio Mane could turn out to be a mistake by Liverpool. The Senegalese winger joined Bayern Munich this summer in a £35million deal with add-ons.
Mendy, the Chelsea goalkeeper, knows Mane well from their time together at Senegal. Both of them are arguably the Teranga Lions’ most important players.
They won the AFCON for the first time in their country’s history earlier this year. Those were times when LFC fans weren’t all that worried about Mane’s future despite his deal running out in 2023.
The eyes were on Mohamed Salah and his contract situation. While the Egyptian renewed until 2025, Mane left a few weeks before that in a deal that could prove to be a loss for the Reds. Mendy, speaking in an interview as quoted by Liverpool Echo, said:
“I think it is a big loss for the Premier League in terms of quality and in terms of the person. We’ve lost someone great and I hope for him he will enjoy the Bundesliga.”
“He’s also a big loss because of his quality, the impact he makes and also because, for the young players, he’s an example. When you lose someone like this it can have a huge impact.”
It’s nice to see Mane’s compatriot back him in such a manner but surely he would be relieved in some way that he wouldn’t have to come up against one of the most lethal wingers in Europe during domestic outings.
Nevertheless, what Mendy says is correct, at least to some extent. While the Reds have seen several big players leave in the past, they have often found a way to replace them and keep moving.
Darwin Nunez has been brought in from SL Benfica while Luis Diaz sealed his move back in January from FC Porto. It’s not an easy task to replace Mane.

Mendy’s comments would perhaps remind our fans of all the big goals Mane scored for us during his time here, and just what we could be missing next season. He was a big-game specialist for us and it remains to be seen if either Diaz or Nunez can replicate his impact to such an extent.
