Tottenham Hotspur have registered interest in Liverpool target Nicolo Barella

Tottenham Hotspur are said to be interested in Liverpool target Nicolo Barella, according to Il Messaggero (h/t Liverpool Echo). Antonio Conte is keen on bringing his former player to North London.

Liverpool are amongst the clubs linked with the Italian midfielder. Jurgen Klopp is also a big admirer of the 25-year-old Inter Milan star.

Barella has established himself as one of the best midfield players in the world since his move to the Nerazzurri in 2019. The 25-year-old starred for the Italian national side as they triumphed to the Euro 2020 title.

Liverpool are blessed with options in the middle of the park. Jurgen Klopp has the pick of mercurial stars for the midfield positions.

Fabinho plays in the defensive midfield role and acts as a shield ahead of the defence. The Brazilian is an essential part of the team in retaining and keeping possession of the ball.

Then there’s Jordan Henderson, who’s the leader of the side. The 32-year-old has aged like fine wine in Merseyside and has turned himself into a brilliant box-to-box midfielder. Naby Keita also got an extended run in the team last season.

Thiago Alcantara brings quality that rarely any player possesses in the middle. The 31-year-old’s ability to hold on to the ball and play out of pressure is key to the way the Reds play.

We have some young blood in the squad as well, along with experience. James Milner turns 37 at the turn of the new year. Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho are still 19. Academy star Curtis Jones also brings youthfulness to the team.

But a player like Barella has the skill to challenge for a starting place in the side. So Liverpool fans will hope the 25-year-old comes to Merseyside, if not this year, then sometime in the future.
