Liverpool working on deal to secure signing of Jude Bellingham for 2023

Liverpool are working on a deal to secure the future of Jude Bellingham with the Reds and are considering completing a deal now for the 19-year-old’s arrival in 2023, according to Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo).

Liverpool secured the signing of Naby Keita in a similar fashion. The Merseysiders agreed to a deal with RB Leipzig a year prior to the Guinean’s arrival in 2018.

Now, Liverpool look to do the same with Bellingham to fend off interest from top European clubs. But Borussia Dortmund won’t make it easy with talks of the Bundesliga giants wanting to offer the 19-year-old a new contract.

Liverpool are a side with a lot of talent in the middle of the park, but age is not on their side. Thiago Alcantara, Jordan Henderson and James Milner are in their 30s.

The trio is a prominent part of the squad at Klopp’s disposal. Thiago and Henderson are vital members of Jurgen Klopp’s XI, with Fabinho tucked in behind them.

The engine room has been losing a lot of steam. The Reds have been in exhausting seasons for the last few years, going deep in every competition. Last season was a long one considering we won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

The Merseysiders also made it to the final of the Champions League. The Premier League title race was also decided on an exciting final day. Liverpool lost the league by just one point.

And fans noticed the players’ legs running out in the final stretch of the previous campaign. It’s natural keeping in mind the number of matches we played. But one can’t help but wonder whether a deeper squad with more quality would’ve helped us get over the line.

While we do have great youngsters in the side, even Reds fans will concede that Bellingham has been one of the best young midfielders in the world over the last two seasons.
