West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice names Liverpool ace Thiago Alcantara as his toughest opponent
Speaking on Tubes and Ange’s Youtube Channel (h/t The Mirror), West Ham United star Declan Rice has named Liverpool ace Thiago Alcantara as his toughest opponent.
The English international has established himself as one of the best central midfielders in the Premier League. He played a key role in West Ham’s Europa League run last season and is being headhunted by several top clubs.
Playing in the English top flight has seen him come up against several tough opponents. One particularly stands out, Spanish star Thiago.
Rice has no qualms in admitting that the 31-year-old Reds ace is in a league of his own. The Hammers ace went on to add that the Liverpool star more or less dictates the pace of the game.
“I played against Thiago for Liverpool last season. He’s just so silky. He just plays the game at his own pace. He was proper.”
Thiago has been a revelation for Jurgen Klopp’s side since joining from Bayern Munich in 2020. He has slotted in well alongside Jordan Henderson and Fabinho and added a new dimension to Liverpool’s midfield.
The 31-year-old played a big role in the Reds’ winning the Carabao Cup and FA Cup last season. He also ran rings around the Manchester City midfield as the Reds secured the FA Community Shield last Saturday.

Thiago’s vision and ability to dictate play makes him an invaluable addition to the Liverpool side. While he might not grab the goals or assists like Kevin de Bruyne, his impact on the field is unquestionable.
