Liverpool star Ibrahima Konate to miss season opener vs Fulham

Liverpool’s French centre-back, Ibrahima Konate on Thursday evening announced that he will be missing the Premier League’s opening matchday against Fulham and said he will have to “spend some time off the pitch”, through an Instagram post (h/t The Daily Mail).

Konate was subbed off in the friendly game against Strasbourg which we eventually lost 3-0.

The 23 year old has made 29 appearances across all competitions for Liverpool after his transfer from RB Leipzig for £36m.

Jurgen Klopp’s team now has a long list of injuries featuring Calvin Ramsay, Kostas Tsimikas, Curtis Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Diogo Jota and Caoimhin Kelleher.

The medical team at Liverpool now have a task at hand to help Konate recover as quickly as possible. He played a key role in Liverpool’s domestic double last season and would have hoped to contribute even more this season.

Midfielder Naby Keita is expected to be back in the matchday squad after recovering from illness due to which he had to miss out Sunday’s game against Strasbourg.

Thankfully Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are both fit and available to partner Virgil van Dijk against Fulham. But in the longer run, fans would hope Konate is back to 100% fitness as quickly as possible as he is a very integral part of the squad.
