Jurgen Klopp gives his verdict as Darwin Nunez makes PL debut for Liverpool against Fulham
Liverpool new boy Darwin Nunez played a key role in his Premier League debut against Fulham, playing a key role in the 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage.
Nunez had a goal and an assist coming on from the bench and the gaffer called it “a great goal”. The Reds would have hoped for an easier fixture but Aleksandar Mitrovic came out of the blue scoring two decisive goals for The Whites.
According to The Metro, Klopp showered praise on his number 27 but believes he could have scored more. The onus is now on the Reds to ensure their star man lives up to expectations.
‘A great goal, could have scored another one as well, maybe two, crazy. So, he is involved in a lot of goalscoring situations, that’s really cool and that’s where we have to bring him up.”
Nunez was the victim of major criticism following his first two preseason games for The Reds against Manchester United and Crystal Palace, but he bounced back very quickly scoring 4 in a half against RB Leipzig.
This game proves that Liverpool are not yet on the mark, and will take some time to get all guns blazing and play the way the fans expect them to.
Scoring a goal and also setting one up for Mohamed Salah, Nunez could not have dreamt for a better start to his Premier League career, bar the draw as he would have loved to win.
