Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has urged Liverpool fans to not get “too excited” about being linked with a summer move for Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane.
The 26-year-old German made a switch to the Bundesliga in 2020 after four seasons at Manchester City. The winger has been linked with a move away from the German giants this summer.
Certain reports linked Sane with a move to Anfield this summer. A result that would add significantly add to the firepower at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal.
The left-footed inverted winger has featured 91 times for Bayern across all competitions, scoring on 25 occasions, and assisting 28. Prior to that, he played 134 games for Manchester City. Sane was a thorn in our backline, scoring four against us in eight appearances.
Italian journo Romano, though, believes that a transfer for Sane, to Liverpool at least, is far-fetched. He said so in his transfer column on Caught Offside:
“I’m aware that there’s growing talk of Leroy Sane being targeted by the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United, but I wouldn’t get too excited about it just yet.”
With Robert Lewandowski also moving on from Munich to FC Barcelona this summer, it will be tough for Bayern to cope with losing another star attacker.
Romano also went on to add that Sane could be set for a bigger role at the Allianz Stadium this season. Admittedly, the German has little reason to move to Merseyside this summer.
Sane, however, has not had the most ideal time at Bayern and would want to make the most of his opportunity, particularly now given his current contract lasts only two more summers. Whether he is ready to join a former rival remains to be seen.
The Reds could do with a player of Sane’s ability. However, with just weeks left in the transfer window, we are better off chasing attainable targets.
