Manchester United target Joao Gomes reveals his admiration for Liverpool

Speaking on an Instagram live via ESPN Brazil as covered by Sport Witness (h/t Liverpool Echo), Manchester United transfer target Joao Gomes of Flamengo has revealed that he dreams of playing for Liverpool.

Gomes was subject to interest from Manchester United, who are willing to pay around £32million for him. The 21-year-old midfielder has dreams of donning just red, just that it is a different shade to that of the Red Devils.

A question about a move to the Merseyside club and the Premier League prompted the answer from Gomes. It comes as little surprise considering the global reach of the Merseyside club.

“Liverpool are a team I’d play for. I have the greatest desire to play.”

He also expressed his desire to play in the UEFA Champions League, which was his “biggest dream”. Unfortunately, a player linked to Manchester United this season can’t have the luxury of dreaming about Europe’s premier competition.

“Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream and that of my family, my biggest dream in football.”

With a defensive midfielder saying he wants to play for Liverpool, the club should certainly keep its options open. Plus, the injury situation at the club calls for some measures in terms of new signings.

Fabinho is our only option in that area while Jordan Henderson can fill in when required. An injury to the Brazilian would see us devoid of options and it is remarkable that Jurgen Klopp has still signed a natural central midfielder since Georginio Wijnaldum’s exit last year.

More Liverpool News:

Liverpool will play Manchester United in the Premier League on 23rd August at Old Trafford, and fans would hope for a repeat of what happened last time the teams met at the stadium.

It is unlikely that Gomes will be a part of that game given how close the match is, but nothing can be ruled out. The Reds are not linked with the player, but given his stance, we might have a proper shot at landing him.
