Reports from The Express state that Liverpool star Joel Matip is in doubt to feature against Crystal Palace at Anfield this Monday.
The Cameroonian is the eighth player in Jurgen Klopp’s side currently out injured. He joins fellow centre-back Ibrahima Konate on the sidelines after a groin problem forced him to sit out of training on Friday.
Ibrahima Konate, Thiago Alcantara, Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones, Kostas Tsimikas, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and new signing Calvin Ramsey are all out of the reckoning for the game against Crystal Palace on Monday. The 31-year-old now joins the unfortunate list.
With both Konate and Matip out, it gives Joe Gomez an opportunity to push himself up the order of reckoning. Klopp can also go with Nathaniel Phillips should he choose to do so.
Matip had arguably his best season on Merseyside in 2021-22, after having a tough injury-laden period at the club. Thankfully he has been available more often than not in recent seasons.
Furthermore, the injury crisis in the midfield is also a growing concern for Jurgen Klopp with Thiago injured in the Premier League opening matchday against Fulham.
Liverpool would hope for all of these injury issues to get sorted as soon as possible as almost all of these players are an integral part of Klopp’s first team.
