Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp talks about the crazy build-up to the Crystal Palace game
According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool gaffer Jurgen Klopp admits that injuries made life difficult for him ahead of the clash against Crystal Palace. He revealed why the starting XI was so different to the one at Fulham
“The week was crazy. It was like we had a witch in the building, honestly. Every day somebody else pulled out for the craziest reasons.”
There were four changes to the line-up. Harvey Elliott replaced Thiago. Jordan Henderson’s minor issue saw James Milner lead the side out on Monday. Joel Matip’s injury saw him being switched for Nathaniel Phillips and up-front, Darwin Nunez replaced Roberto Firmino.
The Reds squad had a portion of first-team regulars out due to injury. Caoimhin Kelleher, Ibrahima Konate, Calvin Ramsay, Curtis Jones, Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Diogo Jota were among those who did not even make the squad. When prompted on Joel Matip’s status, the gaffer said, “two weeks more.”
Nathaniel Phillips put in a good shift, given he trained for the first time on Sunday. With the injury list building up, Klopp and his recruitment team now have a task at hand. The club needs to figure out a proper solution to these injury problems and look for solutions in the transfer market.
Milner and Phillips are excellent players, but undeniably, for a squad competing to win all four trophies, we need better players to start games. With Darwin Nunez also suspended now, Liverpool have just Roberto Firmino to play in centre-forward.

Given this slow start to our campaign, we are already in a race with our rivals Manchester City who are on top of the table with two wins from two games. Hopefully, the trip to Old Trafford will see us start a winning run that can get us back into the title race.
