“Have some respect”- Crystal Palace defender complains about death threats after the Anfield incident

Joachim Andersen complains about death threats after Liverpool draw

Crystal Palace defender Joachim Andersen has been on the receiving end of death threats following his altercation with Darwin Nunez, which resulted in the striker getting sent off.

According to The Guardian, the defender faced death threats on social media, something that has become a common occurrence given the tribal nature of fans on the platforms.

“Got maybe 3-400 of these messages last night. I understand you support a team but have some respect and stop (acting) tough online”

It is difficult to ignore the negative use of social media and the harmful precedent it sets for other people. It would be wise to have stricter guidelines on what is permissible and what is not.

The red card incident has left a sour taste with some of the supporters, having seen their rivals Manchester City, already pulling clear in the Premier League title race.

Liverpool were not able to turn things around, albeit a sensational performance from Luis Diaz saw the game end in a draw. It leaves the Reds with two points from two games.

The night could have ended differently had there been 11 players present, although the Kop did its best to make sure it covers the lack of personnel. Darwin Nunez’s red card was a moment of madness with not just the timing but the manner of it happening.

The Uruguayan cut a frustated figure all evening with one missed shot and another one that hit the post and with a slight push from Andersen during an arguemnt, he did a Zidane and headbutted the defender.

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t The Mirror), The sentiment has been reiterated by the defender while speaking in his post-match interview. It is fair to say that he lays the blame for the incident squarely on the Liverpool star.

Darwin Nunez has to learn from this mistake and not give in to provocation. With a three-game suspension to mull things over, it will surely give a lot of time to Nunez to reflect on the incident.
