Report: Liverpool star unhappy with current developments at Anfield

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita is unhappy at the club

According to Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports via Twitter, Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita is ‘unhappy’ with his current state of affairs at the club. Talks regarding a potential contract renewal have also hit a roadblock for now.

Keita joined the Reds in 2018 from German side RB Leipzig for a fee worth £52.7 million. His time at Merseyside has been laid with injuries and a string of inconsistent performances. In over five years at the club, Keita has featured 117

times for the Reds scoring 11 goals and securing seven assists.

It was earlier reported that the club were offering Keita a contract extension, only for the talks to stall now. The Guinean international is unhappy with his situation at the club presently, perhaps hinting that all might not be right regarding his role at the outfit.

Given the hype surrounding his arrival, much was expected of Naby Keita. While there have been moments of absolute quality, they have been far and few between.

The Guinean international, leading up to this season had one of his best campaigns with Liverpool over the 2021/22 campaign. In 23 appearances across the league, he scored three goals and bagged one assist. Even in his best season, he missed eight games across various competitions owing to injuries.

His current contract runs out in the summer of 2023 and unless a renewal is penned, we could lose the player for free. The club should act swiftly in either case of extending his contract or looking for suitable buyers before the transfer deadline early in September.

Liverpool are currently facing an injury crisis in midfield. Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all sidelined presently. Alongside Jordan Henderson and James Milner, Keita is the only recognised central midfielder fit at the club.

It does not make sense for the club to continue employing a player who is unhappy with their situation at the club. Liverpool should look to cash in on the player and pool that money into the club in terms of recruiting new midfielders.
