Manchester United consider dropping captain Harry Maguire vs Liverpool
Manchester United could be without Harry Maguire when they take on Liverpool next Monday. It has not been the best of starts for the Reds, having dropped points in their opening two fixtures.
Now, it is being reported by Manchester Evening News that Manchester United captain Harry Maguire might be dropped for the Derby. Liverpool fans would have wanted the Englishman to be a part of the fixture, given the recent mistakes he has made.
After a disastrous start for Manchester United where they have lost the first two opening games of the season conceding six goals in the process, manager Erik Ten Hag is considering dropping the defender in place of Raphael Varane, who has been recovering from a minor injury.
Harry Maguire is a good defender, otherwise, it would not be possible to explain his career growth which has resulted in him being a mainstay in the English National team. However, he has not been able to replicate the form on the club level since his £80m transfer from Leicester City.
No one would have expected Liverpool and United to be in the bottom half of the table as early in the season which aggravates the need for a must-win situation for both teams.
With the three-match suspension to Darwin Nunez for his reckless challenge and first-team players in Diogo Jota, Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, Roberto Firmino and Joel Matip all out of the fixture, we would want to make the best use of all advantages that are available.
Maguire is still struggling to adjust to the new system implemented by the United manager, wherein he wants to play with a high line. This would have allowed us to get players running in behind and play aggressively on the front foot.

With the humiliation inflicted on United last season, it would be wise to think that in spite of the lack of personnel, we are still the favourites to win the game against an opponent who are still unsure of the way they want to play.
