Major injury boost as 30-year-old Liverpool star spotted in training ahead of Man United derby

Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino back in training ahead of Manchester United clash

Firmino started in the draw against Fulham at Craven Cottage earlier in the season. Bobby’s return comes in just at the right time. Liverpool’s other fit forward, Darwin Nunez, is serving a suspension after he saw a red card in the fixture against Crystal Palace. Diogo Jota is still recovering from a hamstring issue.

The 30-year-old forms a very integral part of Liverpool’s attack, creating numerous chances for the wingers. Firmino started the game against United last season, wherein the Reds registered a famous 5-0 win at Old Trafford.

Next for Bobby Firmino

In 20 league appearances last season, Bobby scored five goals and got four assists. He missed 13 games last season owing to different injury issues. Along with him, Darwin Nunez was also spotted in training. In spite of his suspension, he looked to make most of the time out.

Firmino’s chemistry with Salah shall be beneficial for the squad. Darwin being new to the team and Diaz still getting used to the environment saw a minor decline in chances created in the first two games.

Bobby would hope to stay fit for the rest of the season and make a case for himself to start more games given the other players in his position are either injured or suspended.

His current contract ends in the summer of 2023, and an extension could depend on how well he performs this season – if the Reds are even considering that, to begin with. He is not getting any younger and his goals are depleting with age.

Even though he is such an integral part of the squad, the club should look at the bigger picture. Having lost Sadio Mane, Takumi Minamino, and Divock Origi in the same window, it was important we kept Firmino, at least for this season. However, he could leave on a free transfer next summer if he doesn’t renew his deal here.
