Jurgen Klopp’s pre-match comments via the club’s official website about Naby Keita suggest that the situation looks “all fine” for the Guinean on Merseyside. Recent reports spoke about Keita being “unhappy” at the club.
The gaffer also talked about the 27-year-old being not “overly happy” when he is not playing. The central midfielder was left out of the Reds matchday squad against Fulham owing to illness and against Crystal Palace, Keita was an unused substitute.
The former RB Leipzig star has had a tough career at Liverpool owing to multiple injury issues and inconsistent performances when fit. In hindsight, it was a bit of a let-down given the hype to his arrival. Last season as well, the midfielder missed eight games, in what was his best campaign since his arrival at the club.
Keita’s contract at Liverpool lasts until 2023, and the threat of losing him for free next year is also something the club has to address. Klopp also added that it is “funny” for him to respond to whatever is shown on the news
.“Naby was ill for a week, last game on the bench, is fully in training, looks really good. All fine. But not a player who is overly happy when he is not playing – should not be – but is completely fine, everything.”
He also teased about nobody else talking to him about the alleged unhappy situation for the midfielder other than the press. This might mean that Keita’s representatives haven’t spoken to the club regarding his role at the club.
Keita is in contention to feature against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday. Liverpool are yet to offer Keita a new deal and it remains to be seen if things will be ramped up soon.
