Liverpool ‘preparing’ offer for Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo
Ecuador news publishing StudioFutbol (h/t Liverpool Echo) insist that Liverpool are preparing a bid for Brighton and Hove Albion’s Moises Caicedo, who is apparently not interested in a move to Manchester United.
The 20-year-old moved to The Amex Stadium in February 2021, on deadline day. He moved to Belgian side Beerschot on loan in August 2021 but returned back to Sussex in January owing to a shortage of midfielders for Graham Potter.
The Ecuadorian was also subject to scouting by Manchester United ahead of his move to Brighton. In 10 Premier League appearances, the midfielder has one goal and one assist to his name.
Up next for Caicedo
This season, he started in both of Brighton’s games, against Manchester United at Old Trafford and Newcastle United at home. Graham Potter started his number 25 in defensive midfield in both games.
His role this season is set to be increased from last season, as Brighton let go of Yves Bissouma, who was very integral to Potter and his squad. With Liverpool in the race to sign Caicedo, the Seagulls are at risk of losing one more of their potential talents.
The primarily defensive midfielder can also play central midfield. He could do great as an understudy to our midfield mainstay, Fabinho. At just 20, Caicedo has a very long career ahead of him.
With the threat of injury ever-looming over Liverpool’s head, it would be a sensible decision to sign a midfielder this window. If the club is considering a move for the Ecuadorian, it goes to show they believe that Caicedo is the right player at the moment. The fact that he is quite versatile in the middle of the pitch can be a great boost to Liverpool’s cause, who have minimal depth there.
He also boasts of 23 appearances for his country wherein the Ecuadorian has two goals and four assists to boot.
