Liverpool FC handed date for UEFA Champions League draw

As confirmed by the club’s official site, Liverpool FC will find out who they’ll play in the 2022-23 UEFA Champions League group stage on Thursday, 25th of August. The Reds were the finalists in the last season of the competition, losing out on a seventh title to Real Madrid in Istanbul.

The draw will also take place there, scheduled to begin at 5 PM BST. The Reds are in pot two for the draw. This means that the club will face one club each from the other three pots. According to UEFA’s rules, clubs from the same nation are not eligible to meet each other in the same pool, thus ruling out Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

With a World Cup slated in November later this year, the group stage for the UCL will take place over an eight-week period. Six matchdays, beginning on September 6-7 and concluding on November 1-2.

The draws for the Round of 16 will take place on November 7. They will be played in February and March next year. Liverpool would hope to go the distance this time around, narrowly missing out in the 2021/22 season to Real Madrid.

The Reds are the most successful English club in the competition, winning six times, more recently in 2019 against Tottenham Hotspur. Liverpool have come out second best in the final on four occasions. The last two being against Real Madrid.
