Liverpool are interested in signing AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer
According to Italian Outlet Corriere Dello Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are interested in signing AC Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer, with his contract running down in 2024.
Liverpool have faced an injury crisis to the midfield in the initial phase of the season, with Thiago Alcantara and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain out of action. Naby Keita is still in the process of regaining match fitness and hasn’t played much.
Therefore, the Reds have been linked with different players in speculation that they might enter the market to solve their injury woes.
Ismael Bennacer is the latest name to be on the Red’s shortlist with the midfielder having a sublime season and guiding his team to a Scudetto after a wait of eleven years.
He cherished the role of a deep-lying midfielder responsible for transitioning defence to attack under Stefano Pioli and had 40 appearances to his name.
His performances have drawn the attention of many top clubs and now Liverpool have also joined the fray for the player. The Reds might be attracted by his versatility and also the fact that Bennacer can be available for a relatively nominal fee due to his contract running out. As things stand, the Algerian has shown no signs of penning an extension.
Liverpool fans have been advocating for a new signing after watching the team draw their first two Premier League games with rivals Manchester City starting the season brightly.
Such has been the competitiveness between the two teams that any dropped point is seen as a loss and there have been claims made about how the Citizens are already cruising towards the title, thus making the coming games very crucial for us to mount a title challenge.

It would be wise to assume that over the course of the season, we would need a stronger squad depth that can help us challenge on all fronts.
Ismael Bennacer will provide a skill-set different from the midfielders at the club and if the interest is pursued seriously, it can turn out to be a shrewd singing that would define our season come May.
