Fabinho reveals he has heard about Liverpool’s links to Jude Bellingham
Liverpool’s defensive midfielder Fabinho Tavares revealed in an interview (h/t The Independent) that he is aware of the club’s link to Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham. The Brazilian also called the 19-year-old Englishman “a really good player”.
Fabinho joined the Reds from AS Monaco in 2018 for a fee of £43.7m. Since then, he has been a revelation at the back for Liverpool. Growing from strength to strength, the 28 year old is one of the world’s best defensive midfielders today.
The Brazilian also talked about not being affected by Liverpool’s links with numerous other midfielders, including Dortmund’s superstar. Bellingham is a player Liverpool have had on their radar for quite a while now. He said if the club shall actively look for a number 6 in the market, it will be “normal” for him and “continue to fight” for his position in the starting XI.
“I am really happy here so if Liverpool buy another No 6 that is normal and I will fight for the team and for the position”
“It is normal that good players are always linked with the club. I didn’t hear about Tchouameni. I heard about [Jude] Bellingham because he is young and a really good player.”
Even in case Jude completes the move to Liverpool, Fabinho has no reason to worry. These are two distinctive players, who play in different positions. Bellingham plays a box-to-box role from central midfield.
With the current injury situation at Liverpool, the club would do with a player of Bellingham’s stature, but it remains to be seen if the Merseysiders will splash another £100m for the Dortmund midfielder after already spending £85m for Darwin Nunez earlier this summer.
Even though Liverpool are often linked with multiple midfielders, Fabinho is assured about his position as a very integral part of the club’s midfield. He considers himself a “very important” player for the club, and rightly.
“I consider myself an important player for the team”
The Brazilian was also an integral part of Liverpool’s charge in all four competitions last season wherein the Reds just lost out on the UEFA Champions League and Premier League by a whisker.
Fabinho could actually do with some competition for his position at Liverpool, only to make sure that he does not get complacent with his role.

That hasn’t really been a problem. He has given it his all when playing in that role even though the team has almost never had a world-class number six to jostle with him for regular starts.
