The Brazilian midfielder arrived at Manchester shortly before the Liverpool tie and was at Old Trafford for the encounter. The 30-year-old was a very essential part of Los Blancos‘ midfield alongside Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.

Casemiro sounded rather disappointed to have missed out on playing the high-octane game, possibly the biggest fixture in English football. He said that signing for United is a “very important challenge” for him.

“Signing for Manchester United is a very important challenge for me — I feel like I am 18 years old, if it were up to me I would already play today against Liverpool. I want to show Manchester United fans that I’m serious about them, I will work extremely hard.”

Liverpool’s rivals were in need of a defensive midfielder for a long time now. Their problems were further out in the open following their back-to-back defeats in the first two gameweeks of the Premier League season.

With United strengthening their squad with the marquee signing of one of the best defensive midfielders in the world, Liverpool also need to make some midfield signings to keep up with the depth of their rivals.

The Reds’ big summer signing Darwin Nunez misses out this fixture owing to a suspension. He received a red card in Liverpool’s last league game vs Crystal Palace. Subsequently, he is serving a suspension, with United being the first of three games he’s forced to sit out of.

Casemiro also added that he signed for United to “win new things” and he believes that the Red Devils are England’s “biggest club”. Surely we have a bone to pick with that.

Hence, they should make the most of the opportunity that the transfer hasn’t completed in time for Casemiro to face the Merseysiders and again replicate the result of their last visit to Old Trafford.
