Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp gives an update on Naby Keita’s injury after Manchester United defeat
According to Liverpool FC correspondent Paul Gorst (h/t Liverpool Echo), Jurgen Klopp admitted that Naby Keita was injured for the game against Manchester United.
The Guinea international was missing from action for the game against the Red Devils on Monday night, which added to the frustration of the fans who were already aware of Thiago Alcantara’s unavailability. Klopp said:
“Naby was injured yesterday. We need further assessment but it doesn’t look like he’s back in training tomorrow.”
It seems like Liverpool’s injury crisis have become worse with new injuries and this was evident in the loss to Manchester United where a lack of personnel on the bench was heavily felt.
Klopp started the game with a pivot of Jordan Henderson and James Milner which lacked incisiveness and composure to handle the high press from Manchester United. Bar few minutes in the game, we were the second best team throughout the game and deservedly lost our first game in 2022.
Two points in the first three Premier League games is a nightmare start to a season for Liverpool and the defeat calls for a major discussion surrounding the midfield and the need for new personnel.
Jurgen Klopp cut a frustrated figure on the touchline and saw the game slipping away towards the end of the first half. The lack of quality players on the bench was truly felt.
Fabinho’s introduction in the second half bought some level of composure to the midfield but Henderson’s misplaced pass led to the second goal, after which it was a monstrous task to mount a comeback.
There were speculations before the game that this would have been a very important fixture concerning Keita’s future and surely a last-minute injury prevented him from getting good minutes in a Derby clash.
