Transfer News: Borussia Dortmund ‘interested’ in Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita
According to The Mirror’s David Maddock (h/t Liverpool Echo), German side Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing Liverpool’s Naby Keita. Interestingly, Liverpool are also ‘linked‘ with the Black and Yellow’s Jude Bellingham for a considerable time.
The Guinean midfielder has been patchy during his time at Merseyside. A string of injuries and inconsistent performances have led to the 27-year-old not having an ideal spell at Liverpool. Keita joined Liverpool for £54m and one can argue that he has not lived up to the price.
To his credit, he had possibly his best campaign for the Reds in the 2021-22 season. In 40 appearances across all competitions, he accumulated four goals and three assists. Despite that, he missed eight games last campaign.
However, Jurgen Klopp denied last Friday any intentions of offloading Keita this summer. The former Dortmund manager also mentioned that Liverpool would look to replace him if the Guinean decides to part ways with the club.
With the current injury situation at Liverpool, it is wise for the club to sign a midfielder, but not at the cost of another leaving. Depth in midfield is the major issue as to why Liverpool have had such a sloppy start to their league campaign.
With the German club interested in Keita, if there is a possibility of a cash-plus player swap deal with Bellingham, Liverpool would want to explore that opportunity.
For a player of Keita’s skill set, he would have probably expected more out of himself at Liverpool. There have been glimpses of brilliancy from the 27-year-old, but again, the problem comes down to consistency and being injury-free.
However, according to the Daily Mail, Liverpool are ‘ready’ to lose him on a free next summer rather than selling him now, as midfield depth is a major issue the club is facing right now.

One can imagine the furore in Liverpool’s fanbase if the Reds sell another midfielder, be it the injury-prone Keita. We already need a midfielder to strengthen us and if we sell Keita, we would undeniably need two.
