Bastian Schweinsteiger gives his verdict on the Derby loss and claims Liverpool were the better side
Speaking to BBC Radio Live (h/t Manchester Evening News), Former Bayern Munich and Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger claimed that Liverpool were the better side in the contest but United had more spirit and competitiveness, which ultimately was the deciding factor in the game.
“Liverpool were the better team with much more possession. They couldn’t finish their last passes otherwise they would have won the game.”
Bastian Schweinsteiger is correct in his analysis of the game with Liverpool dominating the game in terms of possession with possession of 70.5% in the game.
There were periods in the game where Liverpool had sustained pressure on the United defence but could not find its shooting boost without taking away the fighting spirit shown by its rivals.
On another day, there might have been a different result with the continuous possession and chances that were being created for the attackers, however, there was not a clear-cut opportunity, except for the chance which resulted in the first goal for us.
It was not a quintessential performance from a Jurgen Klopp side, which actually has been the narrative since the start of this season.
Even with the amazingly talented players in the squad, there was not enough rhythm and cohesion which could have inflicted damage on our rivals.
It is also important to consider that United had been coming off two disastrous performances and were there for the taking. However, what transpired was a fighting spirit within the Red Devils which eventually made them more threatening than us.
Therefore, in spite of all the possession that we had throughout the game, it was evident that United had more clear-cut chances and contrary to what was said by the German legend, on another day it could have also been a more damaging result for us as well.

We have had some wonderful past few seasons where the team has looked superior to all top sides, barring Manchester City and have been rightly appreciated for that as well.
Right now it is now of utmost importance that we show complete support to the team which is going through a stressful period.
