Youri Tielemans was keen to join Liverpool in January
According to reports from Rousing the Kop, Ben Jacobs who spoke on The Football Terrace on Youtube, claiming that current Liverpool transfer target Youri Tielemans wanted to join the Reds back in January.
Liverpool must sign a midfielder this transfer window given how the starting midfield is ageing. The threat of injury also keeps looming over the Reds. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Curtis Jones, Naby Keita and Thiago Alcantara are all sidelined due to injury.
Even in the last game against Manchester United, Liverpool fielded Jordan Henderson and James Milner in midfield. The legs of these two are not enough for the Reds to compete for all four trophies.
At these tough times for the club, we certainly need reinforcements. Youri Tielemans was on Liverpool’s radar even in the January transfer window, and apparently, even his agent “pushed Liverpool links” back in the winter.
“Liverpool have always shot down Tielemans links, so if they did move for him, it would be more of a U-turn than a strategy and a lot would depend on the price”
As Ben Jacobs said, Tielemans is not a player Liverpool believes would fit into their system. Hence, any interest in the Belgian player hasn’t materialised even in today’s desperate times.
Alongside Liverpool, PL rivals Arsenal are also linked with the 25-year-old. His contract with The Foxes ends next summer, and he might be available at a bargain price for suitable buyers.
Tielemans can be a ball-carrying attacking midfielder, as well as a central midfielder. His ability to take a shot from distance is something which might benefit the Reds as we lack goal contributions from the midfield.

Even if not Tielemans, Liverpool should certainly look to sign a midfielder as it will hold utmost importance come to the end of the season. With Naby Keita’s contract talks also on hold, the club will be really short of midfielders for next season.
