Liverpool reach a verbal agreement with Jude Bellingham

According to Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo), the Reds have reached a verbal agreement with Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham to get him onboard as early as the January transfer window.

It is unusual to see a club lose two of their best players in the same transfer window, hence Dortmund were unwilling to sell Bellingham this summer, after the transfer of Erling Haaland to Manchester City earlier

According to the reports, it is very likely that Liverpool will be able to bring the 19-year-old into the fold as early as January 2023 after negotiating an agreement behind the scenes. Even though there is a reported agreement, a Summer 2023 move is more likely than the January transfer.

Mission Hey Jude for Liverpool

Liverpool’s recruitment team had long ago assessed Bellingham and identified the former Birmingham City midfielder to be someone who can introduce a new dynamic to Liverpool’s ageing squad.

The 19-year-old’s current contract at the German outfit expires in 2025 and Die Schwarzbelgen value the midfielder at £100m. With Reds boss Jurgen Klopp also stating the need for a new midfielder after the loss to Manchester United, it would not be a shocker to see Liverpool move for a midfielder in the following week.

However, it is highly unlikely that Bellingham will be signed by Liverpool right now, as the Dortmund valuation may be a hindrance given how the owners, FSG, are quite strict with their spending policies.

The Englishman made 44 appearances for Dortmund last season, scoring six goals and making 14 assists. It is understandable why Liverpool are moving quicker than ever for the midfielder. With the threat of Real Madrid also looming in the background, the Reds need to act first.
