Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp provides an injury update update on Diogo Jota and Thiago Alcantara
Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on the injury of his players in his pre-match conference. Speaking to the media ahead of his side’s clash with Newcastle United, the German boss provided an update, as quoted by Liverpool Echo.
Diogo Jota is close to making his return to the team, with the Portuguese expected to be back in training before the end of this week. The gaffer also said that Thiago Alcantara was not too far behind.
I think Diogo can train from Thursday on. Thiago I think, slightly later. We’ll see.
Jota suffered a hamstring injury on international duty and hasn’t featured yet this season. Thiago, meanwhile, limped off against Fulham on the opening matchday and has not featured since.
He also said that Calvin Ramsay and Caoimhin Kelleher were also getting closer to making a return to the squad. The Reds have been without as many as 10 senior players for their opening four games of this season.
Calvin (Ramsay) is getting closer. Caoimhin Kelleher I saw walking outside for goalkeeper training. So there is light at the end of the tunnel, definitely.
Joel Matip and Cutis Jones took part in training on Monday and many more could return before the end of this week. The mass injury hampered the start of the season, with the Merseyside club collecting five points from a possible twelve.
The injury-stung squad also had Klopp change his stance on the transfer business of the club, with the boss now looking to sign a new midfielder if possible before the deadline day. With time running out, it remains to be seen if any new face arrives.
The return of players will bring a smile to Klopp’s face. The team has struggled on the pitch without their regular stars. Liverpool cannot afford any more slip-ups if they want to remain in the title race this season.
