Transfer News: RB Leipzig have no intention to sell Konrad Laimer amid Liverpool interest

As per Fabrizio Romano via Twitter, RB Leipzig have no intention to let Konrad Laimer leave this summer. This comes after Liverpool were said to be interested in the midfielder.

Romano further adds that the Bundesliga club will only consider if a crazy offer arrives for the 25-year-old. The Reds were considering the Austrian international as a cheap option in the market.

Laimer’s current contract expires in 2023. This would mean he would be available for a cut-price this summer. But with only two days left before the transfer window closes, the German club have made their intentions known.

Jurgen Klopp needs to reinforce his midfield after losing out three midfielders to injury. The lack of a proper midfield was clearly highlighted in their shock defeat against Manchester United earlier this month.

The Austrian international joined the Bundesliga club in 2017. Since then he has established himself in the team and has been a part of their success. He has scored 11 goals and provided 18 assists for the Die Roten Bullen in 164 overall appearances.

A midfielder capable of playing on the right side too with an attacking nature, he would have been an ideal signing for the Reds. Plus, all his experience would be something that the Merseyside club could do with in the middle of the park.

Laimer’s versatility would have helped in increasing the depth of the squad and also reduce reliance on other midfielders. But his current club is very unlikely to sell him and this would come as disappointing news to Klopp’s ears.

With less than two days remaining before the September 1 deadline, it remains to be seen who, if any, is brought to the club. The options are very thin and it will be a huge task for Klopp and co to convince any team to sell a midfielder to them, this late in the transfer window.
