Hamann believes Joelinton could solve Liverpool’s midfield issue

Transfer News: Dietmar Hamann believes Joelinton could solve Liverpool’s midfield issue

Dietmar Hamann believes that Joelinton could be the answer to Liverpool’s midfield crisis. Speaking to GGRecon (h/t Daily Star), the former Reds’ midfielder gave his opinion.

You look at Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, Thiago, they’re all similar, tidy players, I think they could do with someone like Joelinton from Newcastle. I think he’s someone who’s technically gifted, who’s a big lad and has a great strike on him. I think that’s the type of player they miss.

Joelinton joined Newcastle United in 2019 from German side TSG Hoffenheim. Initially bought in as a forward, the 26-year-old struggled in front of goal. But a switch to a deeper role in the middle of the park has transformed the Brazilian’s game.

A box-to-box midfielder with attacking traits, he could help solve the issue in the midfield department for the Reds. The player’s current contract runs till 2025 and it is highly unlikely that the Magpies would consider selling him.

The Reds see senior midfielders in Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain injured so early on in the season. Reds fans have been demanding that the club sign a new midfielder but to no avail.

Disappointing results against the likes of Fulham and Crystal Palace coupled with the defeat against Manchester United only highlighted the lack of midfield depth at the club. Every other department is stacked with players and that is necessary even for the midfield.

Jurgen Klopp has told that the club will look to sign one midfielder before the window closes, but time is not on their side. Joelinton could help the club with this issue. A tall and experienced figure in the middle of the park, the 26-year-old could be the answer that the Reds seek.

Thiago Alcantara picked up an injury on the opening matchday.

But he is a regular at St. James Park with time in his contract. With less than a day remining before the transfer window closes, it is highly unlikely that the Magpies will entertain any offers for a regular player like the Brazilian.

Fans, meanwhile will hope that their team can win again. They thrashed Bournemouth in the last game and host Newcastle for their next game. Hopefully, the team walks away with three full points.
