Clarence Seedorf likens Liverpool star Roberto Firmino to Karim Benzema

Speaking on Prime Video as quoted by Liverpool Echo, former Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf compares Reds striker Roberto Firmino to Real Madrid star Karim Benzema and thinks that the Brazilian should start every game.

Liverpool suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Napoli in their opening match of the Champions League campaign this season. The Reds lost 4-1 to the Italian giants in what was a shock defeat to Jurgen Klopp’s men.

The Reds have not had the best of starts to the current campaign. They have been far from the juggernaut that they used to be and a lot of gaping holes have been prevalent especially in Liverpool’s midfield.

Firmino has had a good start to the season

Injuries have surely been a driving factor in Liverpool’s poor run of form this season. The Reds have so many players out with an injury and this has resulted in Liverpool struggling to get into any sort of rhythm.

One player who has started the season off on a pretty decent note is Roberto Firmino. The Brazilian has been vastly helped by an injury to Diogo Jota and a three-match suspension to Darwin Nunez.

Firmino has grown out of relevance at Anfield in recent seasons after the emergence of Portuguese forward, Diego Jota and it would come as a welcome boost to Klopp that he seems to be getting back to his best.

Speaking about the Brazilian’s influence on the team, Seedorf compared Firmino to the likes of Karim Benzema

“I would always put Firmino in the team. In recent years Liverpool did well because he is a bit like Benzema at Real Madrid. He knows how to play a little deeper and goes on the wings. He is a nine who can read what the team needs and Klopp will focus a lot on him this season, despite the arrival of Nunez.”

Although the Reds have not had the best of starts to the season, they are expected to turn things around really soon. Having a fully fit and firing Firmino will be an added plus for Jurgen Klopp.

For a team that has set very high standards for the past few seasons, it’s surprising to see Liverpool struggle so much. It remains to be seen how the Reds bounce back from this and get back to where they belong, soon.
