Premier League ‘consider switch’ for Liverpool away game against Chelsea

According to the Athletic (Subscription Required), the Premier League is considering a plan to switch venues of the games scheduled to happen in London for the upcoming weekend with Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford the concerned teams.

Premier League officials have concerns over policing and security available for the games due to the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and therefore are considering the approach, following the postponement of the previous game week.

Liverpool travel to Chelsea following the postponement of their game against Wolverhampton Wanderers and the current claims would see Chelsea coming to Anfield instead, with the return leg then being played at Stamford Bridge later this season.

With the season including a World Cup and European commitments for certain teams, there is already congestion of fixtures for the teams and another week of postponement would make a tough situation.

Hence, to make sure the matches do go ahead, there is a strong chance that the fixture venue could be shifted.

What should Liverpool do?

However, a change of venue would present a tough time for the receiving team to allocate home and away tickets in such a short span of time. Anfield is a stadium that does not have a problem selling out tickets on most occasions but other arrangements that pertain to carrying out a fixture successfully also come into the equation.

After the embarrassing defeat against Napoli, it is crucial that we get back to winning ways and a home fixture against Chelsea would definitely give an extra boost.

We desperately need to improve our current form to start climbing up the table and the return of Thiago Alcantara, Joel Matip and Diogo Jota would ease up things on Jurgen Klopp. The fixture against Wolves being delayed gives the trio more time to return to match fitness as well.

With Chelsea under a sudden transition due to a change of managers, it presents the perfect opportunity for us to strike over a potential top-four rival. It would be wise on our part to comply in case the club is given a say in the matter.

It’s best to get done with fixtures while we still can, or we would risk fixture congestion later on in the season. The game against Ajax in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night, meanwhile, looks like it will go ahead as planned.
