Liverpool tweet confirms Ajax fixture stands to go ahead

Amidst a few days of uncertainty, a tweet from Liverpool’s official Twitter handle affirms that the Reds will face Ajax in Amsterdam this Tuesday in the UEFA Champions League group stages.

Following the Queen’s death on 8th September, all Premier League fixtures for the weekend stood postponed with immediate effect. That included Wolverhampton Wanderers’s visit to Anfield to face Liverpool.

Following this news, speculation over UEFA Champions League fixtures arose as well. But with Liverpool’s official Twitter account putting out a tweet which confirms that the Reds are set to take on the Dutch giants at Anfield, all such conjectures come to an end.

The Reds have a good break between their last fixture and the next, of almost five days which would not have happened unless the Wolves fixture took place. It has been a tough start to both the competitions and Liverpool would certainly be keen to come back stronger as quickly as possible.

Form a concern for the Reds

Liverpool have a good record against Ajax in the recent past, winning both their group stage games against the Dutch team in the UCL two seasons ago winning 1-0 on both occasions. Curtis Jones scored the winner at Anfield against de Godenzonen who were then managed by current Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag.

The last few weeks have been tough for the Reds, dropping points in the Premier League against Everton and more recently, a 4-1 thumping at the hands of Napoli. These have been tough times for the club for sure, and the Reds must bounce back.

Jurgen Klopp also spoke about how the club needs to “reinvent themselves “amidst all the big stars backfiring. No better occasion than Ajax to get things going and try to get a win at Anfield which can prove to be a morale booster.

The fixture against Ajax also gives a chance for new signing Arthur Melo to showcase his talent in front of what could be a full-capacity Anfield.

The Juventus loanee made his debut for us last game, which was a 4-1 trouncing against Napoli in Naples. That game has damaged our goal difference and put us bottom of the group, but at least our most difficult fixture on paper in Group A is out of the way.
