Ian Evatt reassures fans of Owen Beck’s playing time

According to Liverpool Echo, Bolton Wanderers manager Ian Evatt has assured fans that Liverpool loanee Owen Beck will play a part in the 2022-23 season but is not ready ‘yet’.

Beck made a one-year loan move to Bolton on deadline day after his move to Prima Liga side Famalicao had a premature ending in 46 days. However, the player still has not made his competitive debut for the new club.

However, the manager is impressed with the abilities possessed by the young Liverpool full-back and admits that with time, the player will get his due chance. Beck was absent from Bolton’s 3-1 win in the Championship at home against Charlton Athletic.

“He’s getting there. Physically, he wasn’t where we needed him to be because playing wing-back for me is probably the most difficult position, it is the most physically demanding and you have to be really, really fit.”

“I think he’s getting there fast and I think the last couple of days training have done him the world of good….”

Owen Beck is another highly rated talent coming out of the Academy and has already made his senior debut for Jurgen Klopp’s side with his last appearance coming in December.

With Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas already vying for the full-back role, it is sensible for Liverpool to send Beck out on loan to gain regular minutes.

English lower-tier football is one of the hardest places to learn your trade with games coming in thick and fast and as it happened with fellow academy players such as Sepp van den berg, a good loan move can really accelerate the development of a player.

Beck was instrumental last season playing in Premier League 2 wherein he made 39 appearances and scored two goals while notching eight assists.

These are the kind of statistics that Klopp would love from his fullbacks, who need to contribute both defensively and offensively and in modern football, is now considered a hard to position to play in.

Having already represented Wales at the junior levels, Beck has an important year ahead of him to make the gradual step up to senior football and make a wonderful career out of it. Bolton play against MK Dons tonight and it remains to be seen if he will be in the squad for that league match-up.
