Trent Alexander-Arnold reaches special European milestone in Liverpool’s win over Ajax
Following his appearance against Ajax, Trent Alexander-Arnold became the youngest Liverpool player to reach 50 European appearances, as per the club’s official club account. At 23 years of age, he is the latest and the youngest entrant to the list, featuring first-time superstars like Mohamed Salah, Jordan Henderson and Roberto Firmino.
Currently, Jamie Carragher tops that list with 150 appearances. Trent marked the occasion with an outstanding performance, amidst criticism for his poor form over the last few games. Fans at Anfield were treated to a very nervy 2-1 win.
The Englishman put the noise from the outside to a standstill, playing in what was a very good game for the academy graduate. On the night against Ajax, won 100% of his tackles and won five of his six ground duels. Additionally, he created four chances offensively (h/t FotMob for stats).
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s form
The game could not come at a better time for Liverpool and Trent. During times when the players are facing scrutiny for not being up to the mark, this game came as a change and provided glimpses of last season’s Liverpool.
Trent himself had much to prove given he was not in the best of forms for the last few weeks. The 23-year-old’s defensive abilities are often thrown under the bus. The only problematic part of last night’s game was the Reds’ sudden vulnerability to concede a goal from almost nothing.
Trent stood caught off-position on a number of occasions but his excellent game otherwise probably should let him off that mistake. Fingers can be pointed at him being flat-footed as Mohamed Kudus made a run behind him for the opening goal, but apart from that, he seemed solid.
The Reds will be out of action for a while with the postponement of their Chelsea game. Liverpool play next on 1st October, in a Premier League fixture against Brighton, who are expected to be managed by former Red Adam Lallana on a temporary basis post-Graham Potter moving to Chelsea.

Given the lack of competition down that side and Calvin Ramsay’s relative inexperience at the big stage, Trent will be expected to start. Hopefully, the game against Ajax can serve as the catalyst for a revival as the Reds strive to win silverware after winning two last season.
