Report: Liverpool may choose to terminate on-loan star’s contract in January

Transfer News: Liverpool may choose to terminate Arthur Melo loan in January

According to Tuttomercatoweb (h/t Liverpool Echo

), Liverpool may choose to terminate on-loan Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo‘s contract in January to facilitate a move for another midfielder.

The Reds joined Arthur just recently on deadline day on a season-long loan with an option to buy at the end of the season to alleviate the injury crisis that they were suffering in midfield back then.

Curtis Jones, Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita are injured or all have been injured at some point this campaign and Liverpool found themselves extremely understaffed in the department.

Arthur Melo was signed with the sole intention of offering Liverpool something as a backup when Thiago Alcantara was injured, with the Brazilian the closest we have to the Spanish playmaker in terms of playstyle.

A player who was very highly rated during his time at Barcelona, Arthur’s career in Turin hasn’t really gone according to plan. He has struggled with inconsistency and injuries throughout his time there.

To be fair to Arthur, he is talented and really good at quite a few things on the football pitch. His ball retention abilities are very good and he has the ability to keep the game flowing at a proper tempo.

Arthur came to Liverpool without a proper pre-season behind him and it is understandable that Jurgen Klopp is very cautious about the way he uses the former Barcelona midfielder at least for now.

Talks about terminating his loan deal might be premature. Jurgen Klopp will want to give Arthur a chance to show what he is capable of on the field before deciding what to do with him for the future.

Arthur Melo has a chance to succeed at a time when not many people are giving him a chance. It remains to be seen if the Brazilian takes it.
