Joao Gomes has admitted he would like to play for Liverpool amidst interest
Speaking to ESPN Brazil as quoted by Liverpool Echo, 21-year-old Flamengo midfielder Joao Gomes has admitted that he would love to play for Liverpool amidst interest from the Reds to sign the talented footballer.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for the talented young Brazilian whose performances have made world football sit up and take notice of him. He could be a solid addition in an area where the Reds desperately lack options.
For a squad of Liverpool’s stature, there is a feeling that the midfield is not up to the standards required and that it could do with a reshuffle. With the exception of Thiago Alcantara, there is no superstar in midfield.
The Reds even went on to sign Arthur Melo on deadline day from Juventus on a loan deal and there is a feeling that the Brazilian is just a stop-gap arrangement. The former Barcelona man was signed to help alleviate the injury crisis that the Reds were going through.
A number of midfielders at the club like Jordan Henderson and James Milner are on the wrong side of their 30s and there is a feeling that despite Thiago’s sensational form, Liverpool do not have enough firepower in midfield.
Klopp is said to be a huge fan of Gomes and will supposedly love to have him at Anfield in January and if not, next season. The Brazilian youngster seems like a player who would thrive in the German’s system.
Speaking about his future plans, Gomes revealed that it was his dream to play for the Reds and in the Champions League.
“Liverpool are a team I’d play for. I have the greatest desire to play. Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream and that of my family, my biggest dream in football.”
More often than not, when a club wants to sign a particular player and the player wants to join exactly that club, a transfer eventually ends up happening and Joao Gomes to Liverpool might be one such transfer.
