Thierry Henry hits out at Todd Boehly after his comments on Liverpool star Mohamed Salah

Former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry via CBS Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo) hit back on Chelsea owner Todd Boehly’s comments wherein he called Mohamed Salah and Kevin de Bruyne a product of Chelsea’s academy whereas the reality is otherwise.

The Blues’ new owner who hails from the United States of America has already faced a lot of criticism for a lot of things he has been vocal about. Not very long ago, he proposed the idea of a North vs South All-Star game in the Premier League which particularly saw objections.

He believes that this will generate revenue and thought that football should learn a “lesson” from how Americans play their sports. These comments were first shot down by Liverpool gaffer Jurgen Klopp.

Thierry Henry rebuts at Todd Boehly

Premier League legend Thierry Henry took a dislike to Boehly’s comments about “learning a lesson” as well. Chelsea’s owner said earlier in the week that Mohamed Salah and Kevin de Bruyne are products of the Blues’ academy at Cobham.

“We’ve got one of the best academies in the world. Our academy is Mo Salah, Kevin De Bruyne, Tammy Abraham, Reece James, Mason Mount, Trevoh Chalobah.”

Moreover, Henry lashed back at him for not knowing the history of the club he has brought and said that Boehly needs to “learn his own lessons” before teaching Europe how football works.

“Did he say a lesson? A lesson? What’s that supposed to mean? What are they trying to teach? A lesson? Are you a teacher or something? The comment about De Bruyne and Mo Salah… just learn your own lessons and then come back and teach us something.”

In reality, Salah joined Chelsea in 2014 as a 22-year-old from Swiss club FC Basel. He later moved to Roma on loan and from there, he joined Liverpool in 2017. The Egyptian international grew from strength to strength under Jurgen Klopp. Salah is one of the world’s best players presently.

De Bruyne on the other hand joined the Blues from Genk aged 21 and was shipped to the German outfit VfL Wolfsburg after just two years at Stamford Bridge. The Belgian then joined Manchester City in 2015 to emerge as one of the world’s best midfielders.

Boehly with his comments has obviously not made a good first impression among the footballing elites of Europe. As he is someone who is not familiar with the sport, these comments rather should have been well thought of before making such public statements.
