According to Brazilian outlet UOL (h/t Liverpool Echo), Portuguese midfielder Matheus Nunes is still a target for Liverpool, despite making a switch to Wolverhampton Wanderers this season.
It is claimed that despite Nunes making a switch to Wolves for a reported fee of £38million, Liverpool could go for the player if they fail to land their no.1 target for midfield in Jude Bellingham.
Nunes was heavily linked with Liverpool before making the switch, especially towards the latter stages of the transfer window where a need for a midfielder for Liverpool was apparent due to injuries to key players.
From the claims, it is reported that Nunes was also keen on a move to Merseyside and join Jurgen Klopp in a bid to compete for major trophies.
This was the main factor behind him rejecting West Ham United, hoping that a big club such as Liverpool eventually signs him up. Hence, there was slight confusion when he joined Wolves who are comparatively weaker than West Ham if compared to the previous few seasons.
However, Nunes will find himself under a respected Portuguese coach in Bruno Lage and alongside his national team compatriots, his adaptation to the Premier League would be rather easy.
With age on his side and no doubts regarding his ability, a year at Wolves would actually do the world of benefit for the Portuguese International.
Klopp would be keeping an eye on the player and how he copes up with the Premier League pressure and as it is claimed, he might go for the player who we were previously interested in.
However, this time if we do, we would be sure of what we are getting and even if it means paying a premium for the player. If Nunes is able to cement his place in the Wolves squad and showcases impressive performances over the year, there would not be a shortage of suitors vying for his signature.
