Liverpool stars Kostas Tsimikas opens up on his ‘Greek Scouser’ nickname
Since joining Liverpool from Olympiacos in August 2020, Kostas Tsimikas has grown to become a fan-favourite among the Reds’ faithful. His eagerness to connect with the ‘Scouse Culture’ and trying to be one of the fans has led to him earning the nickname of the ‘Greek Scouser’.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the 26-year-old Greek said that he considers himself to be an ‘adopted Liverpudlian’ and has become a popular figure among the fanbase. The former Willem II defender has been using the hashtag #greekscouser in his Instagram posts for a very long time.
Fans on the social media platform seemed to have noticed that and even made the Greek a chant calling him a “Scouse” in the said chant. Speaking of his nickname, he said the following.
“I was with my friend the fitness coach in the gym at the training ground and he said to me, ‘You are the Greek Scouser!’ And I liked it a lot, to be honest.
In 39 appearances across all competitions in over two seasons now, Tsimikas has nine assists. The highlight of his short Liverpool career though would be the moment where he scored from the spot to hand the Reds their FA Cup victory in the finals against Chelsea.
Tsimikas was instrumental in the Reds’ domestic success last season and provided Jurgen Klopp with a breath of fresh air from the bench as and when required and has proved to become a good backup for Andy Roberston.
In the Reds’ last fixture prior to the international break, Tsimikas provided a late assist from a corner kick to Joel Matip, resulting in the Cameroonian scoring the winning header, winning the game for the Reds 2-1 at the end of the 90.
With Andy Roberston at the helm for the left-back position, it is not very often that we see Tsimikas start. But whenever given the opportunity, the Greek has lived up to it and performed exceptionally.
