Man United hero gives his verdict on high profile Liverpool summer signing

Manchester United icon Patrice Evra makes a claim about Liverpool ace Darwin Nunez claim

Speaking on Betfair (h/t Liverpool Echo), former Manchester United fullback Patrice Evra claims that summer signing Darwin Nunez ‘won’t sleep until he scores more goals for Liverpool.

The 23-year-old who joined the Reds for a club-record fee of £85m, has so far not been up to the mark in terms of performances. He scored two goals and got an assist in his first two competitive fixtures for the club. But it has been downhill since. A red card against Crystal Palace, a three-game suspension plus he has not garnered enough minutes post his return to action as well.

The international break has come at just the right time for the Uruguayan international to take a break from club football action for a while and introspect on what has gone wrong for him at Anfield.

Darwin’s Situation is not a major concern

Manchester City’s summer signing, Erling Haaland has been running riot in the Premier League since his arrival. The Reds would have hoped to see something similar to that of the Norwegian’s performance from Nunez. However, they have so far been disappointed.

Evra is not the most famous personality among the Reds’ fans. But he still showed concern for Nunez’s form and expressed that the Uruguayan will not be most pleased when Liverpool wins and he does not contribute to the same.

“It hurts me to say it, but Erling Haaland will be the top goalscorer. He is a goal machine. It’s like what Guardiola said when he scored a hat trick, it’s not like it’s something special, because that’s what he’s done all his career. Darwin Nunez has just come to a new league but when Liverpool wins and he doesn’t score I know he won’t sleep.”

All players do not adjust to a new league, like how Luis Diaz did last season and it would not be the biggest of concerns to see Darwin take his own time to adapt to life in the Premier League. After all, two of Liverpool’s current mainstays in Andy Robertson and Fabinho also had to wait for a long while to become established starters.

Moreover, the pressure has been building up on Nunez due to the price tag and the hype surrounding his arrival at the Reds. It will be a test of his mental strength and how he copes with off-the-pitch criticism and shut the critics with his game on the pitch.

Roberto Firmino is in the best of forms this season. Diogo Jota has recently returned from an injury layoff. Darwin will enjoy this healthy competition and would hope to impress the gaffer in training to make the cut in the playing XI more often than not.
