Report: Championship midfielder dismisses links to Anfield

Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge plays down Liverpool links

According to the Liverpool Echo, Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge has played down links regarding a potential move to Liverpool in the upcoming transfer windows.

Since joining Sheffield United, the Norweigan has played 77 games for the Blades, scoring 11 goals and making nine assists. During Sheffield’s stint in the Premier League, he has two goals and two assists from 29 games in the English top tier.

Speaking about the rumoured moves to Liverpool and Manchester City, the midfielder was non-commital about the authenticity of the news.

“It can be flared up by very little, and it is not necessarily always right, even if there were big and interesting clubs that were in the picture. Not everything on the internet is true.”

Liverpool were going through an injury crisis when linked to Berge. Amid links to multiple midfielders throughout the window, the Reds eventually signed Arthur Melo on loan on deadline day. Given the Reds need a revamp in midfield, it won’t be a shocker if Liverpool chooses to move for Berge next year.

The 24-year-old was linked

with multiple teams including Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea. A move though did not materialise and he stayed put at Bramall Lane.

Currently, in the Championship, Sheffield are topping the table and given their form, they could be back into Premier League action next season. Liverpool though could do with a midfielder who is much more proven than Berge in their lineup. Someone like Jude Bellingham.

Berge has been in sublime form this season and the demand for the midfielder should go up come the transfer window. Whether the Reds will also join the ranks of teams lining up to land him remains to be seen.
