Liverpool could sign Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella given the club’s tough financial situation
Inter Milan are supergiants of a club. They last won the Scudetto in 2021. Even though they seem to be doing great on the pitch, off the pitch is a different story. Inter’s Chinese owners have been struck hard by the pandemic and are looking to sell a minority share in the club.
The club has been going through times financially. The Nerazzurri reports a loss of £211m for the financial year 2020-21 as per The Athletic, the highest loss ever for a Serie A club.
Amidst times like these, player sales could help any club to a great extent. Nicolo Barella is one of Inter’s most valued players. A sale for the player could see the monetary problems go down to a great extent. And according to Calciomercato (h/t Liverpool Echo), the club could be forced to sell one of their best players.
Barella and Liverpool
This could benefit Liverpool in a domino effect. The Reds are eying Barella. Inter need money. The solution seems pretty simple. Jurgen Klopp lures the 25-year-old Italian international away from the San Siro.
The only hindrance Liverpool could face is the valuation. According to The Mirror, a deal for Barella would cost suitable buyers upwards of £75m. But given his club’s financial issues, a cut-price deal could ensure.
The former Cagliari midfielder’s box-to-box ability is something which would fit in the Merseysiders’ system like a glove. His versatility and the ability to remain injury free would appear like gold to a Liverpool fan given the current scenario the club is in.
His high work rate both offensively and defensively will help shape Liverpool’s midfield in this phase of transition. But along with high work rates, comes high asking prices as well. The Reds need to negotiate a deal which benefits either party.
