Jurgen Klopp terms the current situation at Liverpool ‘concerning’

Speaking to the club’s official website, Liverpool gaffer Jurgen Klopp said that the level of confidence in his squad is a concern at the moment. The manager was speaking after the Reds’ 3-3 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion at Anfield.

A Roberto Firmino brace and an Adam Webster own goal proved to be not enough for Liverpool, as Leandro Trossard scored a hat-trick in what was Roberto de Zerbi’s first game as Brighton manager.

The Reds have gone on to drop more points this season, and are currently in the ninth position on the table drawing four and winning two of their seven games this season. The gaffer has gone to admit that the tension in the club is palpable at the moment.

‘Concerning’, I am not sure if it is the right word but we can’t ignore the fact. But then for sure, the Ajax game didn’t give us any kind of rhythm because then we left, so that’s clear. That is something you usually get from these kind of situations, and momentum with the late goal, with the late winner.”

Liverpool are winless in their last two Premier League games, and narrowly pulled off a win in the fixture before that. The signs are obviously concerning at the moment and after this performance, it appears that the International Break also was not very effective for the players.

Alisson and Roberto Firmino were the few positives from an otherwise average game. The Brazilian duo were extremely good at their respective ends of the pitch and probably needed more support from the players around them to get the win.

Moreover, this is not the first time in this season that Liverpool were the first team to concede a goal. Evidently, in all their games apart from Bournemouth and Everton (goalless), the Reds were the first team to concede a goal. That is something which needs to be worked upon as well. It would certainly decrease the amount of pressure during the course of the game.

Klopp coming out in the open and making such a claim is certainly not a good omen for the club. Hopefully, starting the next game, Liverpool would look to make something out of this season, which so far has been devastating.
