Jose Enrique says the top four will be “great” for Liverpool after a poor start
Replying to a fan’s concern about the fact that Liverpool would not be able to make the top four if the current slump continues, former Reds player Jose Enrique has admitted that is essential that we secure top four qualifications for the economic benefits and also to attract the top players.
Jose Enrique, who made 99 appearances for Liverpool has been vocal about his former team’s triumphs and grim moments and admits that the season’s expectations need to be lowered with a top-four finish now deemed as a good result.
It is a stark downfall from how everyone expected Liverpool to enter the 2022/23 season and mount a proper title challenge to rivals Manchester City, who pipped us to the 2021/22 league title on the last day of the season.
With such a tremendous season for many individuals at the club, it was hoped that they would kickstart from the form shown last season and give another proper go at the title.
However, it is important to face the reality and the reality is that we have fallen way down the pecking order for us to even think of mounting a title challenge.
Already 11 points off the top and are yet to face four of the top six sides, we have a gruesome schedule ahead and need to step up to be in the race for UEFA Champions League qualification as well.
Hence, Enrique is correct in his assessment that the season expectations have changed and looking at the current situation, a top-four finish would actually feel like a decent season outcome.
Rest assured and not to take the situation lightly, there are six top teams who are vying for the top four spots and it certainly would not be an easy aspect to achieve if our current slump continues.
