“Good competition”- Liverpool ace opens up fellow Reds who are his rivals

Liverpool ace Kostas Tsimikas talks about fellow full-backs Calvin Ramsay and Andy Robertson

Speaking in Liverpool’s pre-match press conference ahead of the UEFA Champions League fixture against Rangers (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool left-back Kostas Tsimikas talked about his fellow full-backs, Calvin Ramsay and Andrew Robertson.

Ramsay joined the Reds earlier this season from Aberdeen. He has not been involved in any of the Reds games so far this season because of injury and very recently joined team training. Liverpool’s ‘Greek Scouser’ spoke about Calvin and how the player did well in training.

Given that Trent Alexander-Arnold is out of form, Tsimikas also talked about Ramsay’s potential to challenge the former for the right-back spot. He also added that Calvin brings in good competition, something that was sorely missing in the role.

“He is a great lad and I think he will help the team. Now he is fully fit, I saw him in training and he did very good stuff. When you are a good player, you can challenge the guy who plays in front of you so why not? I think he will bring good competition.”

Tsimikas also gave insights into his relationship with Robertson. He spoke about how the Scotland international supports him despite an injury. Robbo is currently not available for selection due to a knee injury but the left-back position is one wherein the Reds have solid depth compared to other positions.

“Andy is a very good person and a world class player,” he said. “Whatever I need, when I play, he’s always there for me to help me and to show me what I can do better, to help me find when I need to cross, where is the gap. Also, I help him when I are on the bench and I saw the game from outside. He’s a good guy. We spend time in the dressing room. We always speak for everything and I really thank him for this.”

Tsimikas has filled in for Robertson as and when the situation has demanded and he has been excellent in taking up the role. Even in the Brighton game, Tsimikas put in a shift and was among our best players.

Moreover, with Robbo not available for the Rangers game as well, Tsimikas is the Reds’ only natural option to start as left-back for the Reds. Liverpool have not had the best of starts to the season, and this Rangers game comes at a time when the defence has received much criticism.

Apart from that, the midfield was also not firing, so one could expect the gaffer to make changes to the lineup that faced Brighton and Hove Albion midweek in the 3-3 draw at Anfield.

This game gives the Reds a good opportunity to get their season running with Rangers not being in the best of forms in the UEFA Champions League. Liverpool faces Arsenal on Sunday in the Premier League, a match that could act as a perfect springboard to bounce back.
