Liverpool loanee taken to hospital after gruesome injury in Bundesliga match

Liverpool loanee Sepp van den Berg taken to hospital after ‘serious’ injury

Liverpool’s 20-year-old centre-back Sepp van den Berg, on loan at Schalke 04, was hospitalised due to a very serious ankle injury, as per Liverpool Echo. The Dutchman made a temporary move to the Bundesliga side earlier this summer.

The centre-back played all of Schalke’s league games this season – 90 minutes in three games, but he saw himself taken off early in the second half of the league match against FC Augsburg on Sunday. After only 53 minutes, the former Preston North End defender suffered a bad injury trying to block a shot.

Initial treatments were on the pitch after which a stretcher took him off the playing area. He was then taken to the hospital. Schalke have confirmed the same via their official Twitter

account after the 3-2 away loss.

The youngster joined Liverpool in 2019 and made his competitive debut in September the same year against Milton Keynes in a Carabao Cup game. His first start also came in the same competition later that year against Arsenal in October.

He went out on loan to Preston North End in February 2021 on a six-month deal. The deal was later extended by a year, taking the total duration of the loan agreement to 18 months. Moreover, he played an integral role in Liverpool’s pre-season before moving to Germany temporarily.

Even though he has only played four times for the senior club in his four years at the club, Jurgen Klopp and co. look at him as a youth prospect and hence, a very important part of the team’s future as well.

Schalke have not reported a time frame for the Dutchman’s return from injury, but as bad as it looks, one could say that he could be out for the season or come back at the back-end.

It is best to wait for the result after the official scans and then take a call on how he has to go about his rehab. We hope that he is back running soon and proving to everyone that he is still headed down the right path – one that takes him into our starting XI on a regular basis.

He has the ability to do so, after all. Big injuries can change the trajectory of a player’s career – just ask the likes of Harry Kewell that but we believe that Van den Berg has what it takes to come out of this bravely .
