Giovanni van Bronckhorst lavishes praise on Liverpool ace Virgil van Dijk
According to the Liverpool Echo, Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst is full of praise for Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk ahead of the UEFA Champions League clash between the two sides.
Van Dijk has been on the receiving end of criticism following the team’s bad start to the season with the Dutchman also going through a rough patch of form. He has been well below the usual standards and has often been a weak chink in our armour.
However, fellow Dutchman Van Bronckhorst has nothing but praise for the Liverpool defender who is set to follow the Rangers boss’ footsteps in leading his nation to the World Cup.
“I love Virgil. In his career, the way he developed as a player and always took next step, I’m very proud of the way he has performed for all his players but also the national team. He’s the captain and is a true leader.”
The Dutch captain, signed from Southampton, has been regarded as one of the best signings of the Jurgen Klopp era. He has been integral in changing the fortunes of the club over the previous few seasons.
He has allowed the team to play with a high line and is one of the leaders of the team. There is not a single iota of doubt that he will regain his form and confidence in no time.
The team has suffered due to his dip in form but as a true professional, he is the first one, to be critical about the way he has performed since the beginning of the season.
Liverpool have been clubbed with Italian giants Napoli, Eredivisie winners Ajax Amsterdam and last year’s Europa League finalists Rangers FC in Group A of the UEFA Champions League.
In no way it is an easy group that Liverpool could swift by and that was made more evident by the 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Napoli in the opening game.
Although victorious against Ajax, there were still question marks over the general expected performance from a top side and the players certainly need to turn up for the next match against Rangers to regain some control over the group standings.

The 3-3 draw against Brighton was another eye-opener into the current reality of the club and it is pertinent that key players such as Van Dijk find a way to boost their confidence and raise their form for us to have any chance of having a good 2022/23 season.
